9 months waiting since DTE!

Another month has passed. We sent our dossier to Ethiopia 9 months ago!

Since the current projected wait time for an infant girl is 18-24 months, we could possibly be half way there...
Very likely the wait-time time frame will be lengthened yet again... but we sure would be thrilled to get a referral next Spring!

  1. Hi I just stumbled onto your blog by accident. My hubby and I are currently adopting from Ethiopia as well! I was curious to see what agency you are going through because I was wondering why you have to wait so long for a referral? We had a referral before we even finished getting our Dossier together! I wasn't sure if there are different rules/process per agency.
I hope your process goes by quickly!

  2. Hi Bethany,
thank you for contacting me - I always love hearing from people who read my blog! Each family has a different adoption story... :)

We are adopting through AWAA (America World Adopt). Which agency are you using?
When we first started, the projected wait was about 1 year... depending on the size of an agency (how many families are adopting - currently there are 50ish families ahead of us), and how long it takes an agency to complete their investigation of each child's situation (also depending on whether an investigation is done at all!) wait times vary pretty widely. It probably also depends on the age range of a requested child. Our boys are still pretty young, so for this adoption we are requesting an infant. Once she is around school age we might adopt a child 0-5 years... what was your requested age range?

    Blessings,
    ~Katie
